Why I Stopped Buying Fanuc CNC From Different Vendors (And Why You Should Too)

The single-source partner adds value through coordination. If you don't need coordination, you're paying a premium for nothing.
  • If the provider is mediocre at one process and good at others, you're stuck. Switching costs go up when everything's bundled. I almost made this mistake with a vendor who had great CNC programming but mediocre injection molding. I pushed for a trial run on a small job first — and found the issue before committing everything. That test cost me 3 days of socializing the idea internally, but it saved me from a potentially $20,000 mistake.

  3. Ask about their integration process specifically. Not just 'do you offer all three services' but 'how do you hand off work between teams?' The answer tells you everything.
